Deer Stalking - Rules
CONDITIONS
- The permit will authorise the holder to shoot specified deer on an agreed date under the direction of the Estate Stalker.
- The permit holder will be required to:
- Adhere to the time and date agreed with the Estate.
- Be accompanied and act under the direction of the Estate Stalker.
- Produce to the stalker for inspection, a valid Firearms Certificate, Game Licence and a certificate of third party insurance showing a Limit of Indemnity for at least £5,000,000. This can be obtained through BASC, BDS, Countryside Alliance or NGO, or other insurer.
- Indemnify the Estate against any loss, injury or damage resulted from his presence.
- Fire a group of shots at a target to the satisfaction of the Estate Stalker.
- Use a rifle of not less than .240 inches with soft-nosed or hollow-nosed bullets, with a muzzle energy of not less than 1,700 pounds.
- The permit holder may use, at his own risk, any stand seats provided by the Estate.
- The carcass will be the property of the Estate and its particulars will be recorded. The permit holder may purchase the carcass at current market price.
- The decision of the Estate Stalker will be final regarding any matter concerning stalking, conduct or fees.
- An £85 deposit which is non returnable is required on booking, together with the completed application form. PLEASE NOTE THAT BOTH THE DEPOSIT AND THE APPLICATION FORM MUST BE RETURNED NO LATER THAN THREE WEEKS BEFORE THE STALK DATE.
- While all arrangements for a satisfactory outing will be made in good faith, but no guarantee is given.
- If an injured deer is encountered , it will be shot, irrespective of the effect on the Stalk. If an outing is spoilt because of this, the fee may be waived, but this will be at the discretion of the Estate Stalker.
- The head will be the property of the licence holder and can be prepared by the stalker at an agreed cost.
- The Estate Stalker has a dog which is trained for deer work. No other dogs will be allowed on the stalk
- 243 calibre rifles will not be allowed on the hill for stag stalking; a larger calibre is preferred, with a heavier bullet weight
RIFLE
The Estate can provide a rifle for hire at a charge of £50 per day subject to the client having the necessary firearm authorisation.
GRATUITIES
Please note that a stalkers tip is not included in the stalking fees. This is at the discretion of each rifle and it should be based on effort – rather than success.
CONDUCT AND RESPONSIBILITY
- The Estate Stalker is in charge of all aspects of the stalking outing. This will include the client’s conduct, firearms safety and all other safety issues His decision on any matter is final.
- The client must comply with all instructions given by the Estate Stalker, failure to do so may lead to immediate termination of the outing.
- Clients are required to handle their firearms in a safe manner at all times.
PENALTIES
- The Estate Stalker will always try to make sure that the client is comfortable and settled before shooting. A shot should not be taken if you are not happy about it.
- If an animal is missed there will be a penalty charge of £45.
- If an animal is shot and wounded there will be a charge of £75.00 after which stalking will cease until the animal is found and dispatched, whereupon a fee of £15.00 per hour will be charged over and above the standard outing fee, for the time spent searching.
- If a beast is not found the charge will be based on the Estate’s loss of revenue and trophy fee.
- If an animal is shot badly, causing damage to haunches or saddle, the stalker will be charged for damaged vension at market price, that part of the carcass will become the property of the stalker.
